Raised bed vegetable garden can be a very good option for growing vegetables. It can be implemented anywhere you live. The garden can be simple or elaborated as per your design. No matter which garden you go for, you will have the result with fresh and healthy vegetables.
This system is similar to the container organic gardening. In container vegetable gardening you have a small size container and in raised bed you will have bigger version. The roots of the vegetable don’t go that much deep. So you have ample space for the roots to grow in such raised bed system.

Raised bed organic vegetable garden

You will need to raise the garden bed to 13 to 15 inches. And when you talk about the width, it can be as per the space you have and you will need to reach the centre of the bed without having stepping on it. Moreover, if you don’t like to bend during the gardening process then you may possibly raise it to a comfortable height that will help you to tend without bending.

How to Build a Raised organic vegetable garden Bed?
For building a raised bed you can have choice among stones, timber, blocks, and retainer wall paver blocks. If you want to use the timber as building material then you have to go for a non-treated timber like cedar as they don’t contain any toxins. The problem with treated timber is that the toxins used to treat the wood gets into the soil and the organic vegetables will absorb those toxins from the soil. You may locally get such timbers or you can order online for the materials.
Next thing you need to consider is to provide enough drainage. Put gravel at the bottom and then place the soil on top of it. The pathways of the garden can look more attractive as compared to the normal garden.
When you talk about the advantages of raised bed vegetable gardens, they are highly low maintenance gardens. You don’t have to worry about the drainage of the garden. Plants water logged problem can be solved with the help of such raised bed gardens.

Yes that’s the truth, not all of you have vast land for gardening. You may not be able to plant what you want because of the limited space in your little garden. This problem can be solved if you follow the organic vertical gardening and grow fresh vegetables for your family in that tiny garden. In other words you get to use maximum of the space you have.
Many plants can be grown in a little space using the upward space in a garden. Mostly, you can grow veggies that can follow a trailing. In fact,Following this method enables you to double the space you have for gardening.

If you talk about investment for such garden, it doesn’t cost you much. Using simple twine or wooden stakes as trellis saves you a lot of money. Even the garden fences can be used as support to the plants. Other options like chain links, wire links or the wire or wooden fences can also provide a good support.

Beans In vertical Organic Garden

Here are some of the best plants that you can grow in your vertical organic garden.
- Peas & beans: Beans are especially grown on stakes. Peas are also good candidates for vining. It’s not that they cannot be grown on ground without the trellis but it takes a huge space of your garden and it doesn’t grow that good as it grows on stakes.
- Cucumbers: Another vegetable that tastes great and needs a lot of space to grow! These plants can be easily guided to climb up in an already existing structure or a new one. It also acts as an ideal solution to grow cucumbers in vertical gardens for a fresh and healthy growth. Rotting and yellowing of cucumbers can be prevented with the use of this method.
- Melons: Melons! Great fruit for summer. Small melons can be easily grown in your organic home garden. You can simply grow them in containers providing support to grow upwards. Tying the vines in trellis and using old panty hoses to support the melons can easily enable you to create a healthy melon garden.

You can also grow other herbs and flowers which need huge space to grow in that tiny space of your home garden and create a great looking garden with useful plants.

Many people think they know the garden watering technique but tend to do it in a wrong way. If you do not water an organic garden in a right manner you may find that plants are not growing as much as they should have grown or you may even end up with the bare garden or pots only but with no plants.

Here are some tips on proper organic home garden watering techniques that can help you maintain your garden healthy and long lasting.

- Best time to water the plants is the morning time. Watering in the morning allows the soil to dry out during the day time. This helps to prevent the fungal diseases. Watering the plants in evening may cause such diseases.

- Some people water in the mid day, it is simply the waste of water and time since the water dries up quickly. It can even harm the plants if the evaporation is fast because it burns the plant and make it wilted.

- Make the habit of watering deep but infrequent. You can water the plants twice or thrice a week depending upon the season. You may need to water even more in hot seasons. You can make a counting habit for deep watering. Count to 30 for each of the plant.

- Make sure you water the base of the plant, not just the leaves. Remember plants get their water from the soil through the roots.

Organic garden watering

- Purchasing a watering wand is a better solution than investing in a sprinkler or nozzle since the breaker on the end of such wand gives a soft and gentle water shower to the plants. This will help to prevent the erosion of soil.

- If you go for container for growing plants like tomatoes and other moisture sensitive plants make use of self watering containers for better result.

- Always remember that over watering can harm the plants by saturating the soil. It can result in rotting roots.

- Follow these tips and have a happy Garden Watering!

Container gardening is a great idea to save space and keep the garden clean. You can save quite a good sum of money if you know the right way of container gardening. Here are some helpful tips for a healthy organic container gardening.

1. Soil Selection

First thing you need to consider is to select a good organic soil for the container. Unlike other potting soil, organic soil is free of peats. If you go for soil other than the organic soil you will have to change it in the next coming year since peat is something that is non- renewable. But with the soil that is made out combining sterilized manure, rich black humus and organic compost (naturally decayed plant matter) you have the advantage of reusing the soil either for the same container or for garden bed. The soil is high in nutrients and the nutrients won’t deplete as fast as in other soil.

2. Selection of fertilizers.

Organic fertilizers are needed to keep the soil healthy. Good potting soil will feed your foliage and flowers healthy nutrients which are free of harsh chemicals. Go for organic formula which has a high middle NPK index (3 part number you can find on fertilizer bag) for best result.

3. Selection of good root fertilizers

One of the best fertilizers for strong root is Bone meal. The phosphorous rich fertilizer is a great solution for container plants. You can find Bone meal in any gardening shop or general stores.

4. Use your creativity for an organic outlook

The new concept of “found art” is a great way to make your garden organic looking. Washtubs, cast off pottery or even the old wagons can be planted and set in the garden letting them decay naturally. Use of such materials in home garden is one of the hottest trends in the field of organic container garden design.

Container Gardening Organic

5. Go for recyclable containers

Choice in Recyclable containers is the most flexible aspect of container gardening. Go for such containers which are long lasting and break down naturally.

At last when you get into an organic container gardening, you’ll save a lot of money that were spent on harsh chemicals and best of all you’ll have healthy container plants that look gorgeous.

Container gardening, Great solution to garden space problem! Even if you have enough space for garden, you may still want the container garden because of the great look it provides. Some organic herbs grow very well in containers or pots.

Best part of container gardening is its flexibility. You can move the container to the shade if it’s very hot or to the sunlight if you feel the plants need more sunlight. Can you move the normal garden inside when there is a hailstorm? Obviously no, but you can always move those containers with expensive organic herbs when there is such situation.

If you wish to make a rooftop garden then containers are the great materials to create your dream garden. You can even make your deck colourful with flowers or grow some veggies for your family, if you go for container garden.

Here are some helpful tips to make your organic container gardening experience more easy and fruitful.

- First of all you need to think how much the pot can handle. Weather friendly pots needs to be placed for a long lasting garden. If you are in rainy climate then rust proof pots are perfect.

- Next thing you will need to consider is the size of the plant you are planting. Growing veggies in container needs large pots so that they can hold enough water and let the roots grow easily.

- Make sure there is enough drainage in the container. Some decorative planters doesn’t contain such system and which ultimately lead to rotting root.

- You can also make use of used plastic jug or bottles as pot liners.

Organic Container garden

- When you have selected the proper pot and soil, the next thing you need to consider is the plants. You can plant anything in a container but it’s the matter of what grows well in a pot. Annual flowers are good candidates for organic container gardening.

- When you want to grow vegetables in container just remember that most of the veggies need at least six hours of sunlight to grow healthily. So put such vegetable organic containers in sunny area.

- Plants like compact cherry tomatoes and peppers grow very well in pots.

- You can grow vegetables like spinach, lettuce, carrot, onion in containers. Trailing veggies like peas, cucumber and beans also grow well in pots if you provide them vertical support.

- When you go for container garden, just keep in mind that most of the pot plants dry out quickly. In hot season, you may need to water them even twice a day.

Reasons to grow herbs?

Herbs provide great taste to food when added in an appropriate amount. The health benefits of herbs even make them high in demand as they can enhance the immunity system.

Considering all the advantages of herbs, here are some helpful tips to make your herb growing experience more easy and simple.

- If it is possible try to place the herb garden near to the kitchen. Keeping it nearby provides you an easy access to the herbs plus you are more likely to use them while cooking.

- You need to plant herbs like mints, comfrey, bee balm, lemon balm and pennyroyal in pots since they can cover the entire herb garden because of their invasive nature.

- Make use of herbs in companion planting with vegetables to get rid of harmful bugs.

Herb Garden

- If you plant herbs in containers, it provides a great patio garden.

- Plan your herbs before planting them. Plant only those herbs which you frequently use. Planting herbs that are used once in a while only wastes your garden space.

- You can find many varieties of same herbs. Like, you can get Parsley in flat leaf or curly leaf. The varieties can provide a significant change in taste and colour. Go for such variety that best suits your taste buds.

- Make use of organic fertilizer for a good herb garden. You can use compost and seaweeds as fertilizers. It’s better to dig them into the soil.

- If garden space is a problem for herb gardening, you have an alternative of growing them on windowsill. It can be a great solution for easy access of kitchen herb too. It also helps you keep your favourite herb nearby your kitchen.

-Enjoy the organic herb gardening with great healty herbs!

Are you ready to go to the market for organic seeds? Wait, before you go to the market you will need to plan your organic vegetable garden for best result. Well planning solves half the problems arising from pests and diseases. Here are some ideas that help you in successful organic gardening.

Step 1: Decide what to plant

Some people find it very hard to choose the right plant. Here are some tips to help you in decision making.

- You can focus on those plants that are heavy in chemicals when produced by commercial farmers. If you manage to produce even a few of them then that heavily stops harmful chemicals entering into your body.

- If you can produce the fruits and vegetables which are expensive in the season also then that can save you a lot of money.

- Which fruits and vegetables does your family basically eat a lot? Try to go for such veggies and fruits.

- How much salad do you eat in summer? Which vegetables you need for soups and stews in the winter time. Try to go for such vegetables.

- Forget about growing those vegetables that you get for cheap in the market and those that contain fewer chemicals when produced by commercial methods. This can help you utilize the space you have for expensive and better vegetables. It also helps to save your precious time.

Step 2: Find out the planting season

When you have decided what to plant then you will need to find out the panting season for that. You can get early and late varieties for certain plants. It’s always better to go for favourite vegetables. You can also choose versatile vegetables like tomatoes.

Step 3: Choose the best location for planting

First consider how many garden beds you have and figure out if any of them is raised one. Some plants require raised beds. Herbs used in cooking are best to grow nearby kitchen since it is easy for you to get them and you don’t forget to use them. Do you plan to grow watermelons or pumpkins? Plants like these need a lot of space. However you necessarily don’t need to make a bed for them.

Organic vegetable Garden

Step 4: Consider Companion plants

Some plants needs to be planted separate. If you plant them together one might harm the other. You will need to figure out which plants are best when planted together. Some herbs make a very good companion when they are planted together.

Step 5: Soil test

You can perform a soil test just to be on a safer side. People tend to perform a soil test after they plant or when the plant doesn’t grow effectively. It’s always better to find out the nutrients to be added in the soil or the ones that needs to be neutralized for the best result.

Step 6: Planting

Once you have considered all above mentioned steps seriously then you can buy the seeds or seedlings and grow a healthy organic vegetable garden for your family.
